Challenge Trophies Take on the Quarter Final draw for the 2017 Champions League

So, the Draw for the 16/17 Quarter Final of the Champions League is finished and wow, there are some cracking fixtures. To quickly summarise, of the 32 Teams that entered the cup we now have, 3 Spanish sides, 2 German, 1 French, 1 Italian and 1 English team to make up the 8 spaces available in the pot. We are going to have a quick look at each of the ties and have asked a few of the team here at Challenge Trophies to give their predictions below!

Atletico Madrid vs Leicester City

The only English side left in the competition, after last season’s heroics, many a Leicester fan could have only dreamed of reaching the last 8 of arguably the highest honour in European Club football. However, they face stiff competition in a side that have reached the final twice in the past 3 seasons, missing out on penalties in last year’s campaign has certainly lit a fire inside the Atletico camp and has to put them firm favourites for the tie.

Borussia Dortmund vs Monaco

Borussia Dortmund will be facing a stern test against a strong Monaco side which is brimming with youth and attacking flare, this was highlighted in a 12-goal thriller over two legs in the previous round with Manchester City. If Dortmund keep it tight at the back and keep out the tournaments highest goal scorers on home turf, they must fancy their chances.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

The Big One. The two European giants will clash at the spectacular Allianz Arena early April before the return leg at Real Madrid’s colosseum – The Santiago Bernabeu. Bayern will be brimming with confidence after what can only be described as a destruction of Arsenal, with a 10-2 aggregate victory over two legs. Whilst the Galactico’s will be feeling quietly confident as they sit top of the tree in their Domestic league, although they have struggled to get going in Europe, you feel a game like this could draw the best out of the most successful Club in the Cup’s history. This one could go either way, and you feel whoever wins this one, must have an eye on the Final in Cardiff.

Juventus vs Barcelona

The only Italian side to make it into the last 8, and with good reason too. Juventus’ defence has been their strength for many years and have once again delivered, leading them to the top of the charts for least goals conceded, whilst at the other end Paolo Dybala and Higuain pose a threat at the other end of the field. The Turin giants are going to have be on the top of their game facing the most feared strike force in Europe, who will be buoyed by their incredible comeback against PSG, having scored 3 goals in the last 7 minutes to win the tie. A tight one to call however it may be a step too far this time for the Serie A Champions.
