World Cup Countdown: Top 3 Teams

It’s only 15 days until the 2014 World Cup kicks off in Brazil, and fans all over the world will believe that their team have a chance of lifting that trophy come July. We’re taking a look at the favourites to win this famous football trophy.

Brazil undoubtedly go into the competition as favourites, not only being the home nation, but also being in fantastic form over the past year and winning the Confederations Cup in 2013. However, the pressure is on them to put up a show, both on and off the pitch, and anything less than reaching the final will appear as a true disappointment for the country. Their talented squad will need to cope well under the pressure to ensure they pick up the winners medals, otherwise it might be too much for them to handle.

Any team with Lionel Messi in the squad is one worth noticing, and this shows with Argentina being second favourites to win the World Cup. If they can keep their defence solid then I see Argentina going the whole way. On paper, their attacking line-up is second to none and this may prove too much of a force for other teams, and it could be very likely that they outdo their South American rivals in their own backyard; something that probably wouldn’t go down too well with the Brazilians!

For a while it looked like Spain couldn’t be beaten, and with them currently holding both the World Cup and the European Cup they certainly can’t be ignored this summer. Many of their fans will hope to avoid Brazil after the 3-0 defeat in the Confederations Cup last summer, however this could relieve some of the pressure on the Spaniards and allow them to play more freely, suiting their squad. It will also ensure that any fear of complacency should have vanished, refocusing them on retaining their trophy.
