2015 Netball World Cup Kicks Off in Sydney, Australia (Who are the teams to watch?)

The Netball World Cup is just kicking off, and soon all eyes will be on Sydney. Over the course of ten days, there will be 64 different matches to determine which team will win the games. The NWC2015 Trophy is what every team wants to take home, but it can only go to one team. So, which country will be victorious? Let’s take a quick look at the teams you should be watching this year.

England

Of course, we would all love England to win, but what are their chances like this year? The team holds the number three position in the world, which means that they will have to work hard. If they want to prove that they have what it takes, they will need a strong start. In the last world cup, in Singapore, the English team were not victorious. In fact, they came third. Since then, the team have been training an awful lot, and they want to get their hands on the main prize. Yes, it has been a while since the English team touched the trophy, but this year could change it all. The team’s new coach, Tracey Neville, took over in March, and we can expect great things from her.

Jamaica

Back in 2014, the Jamaican team beat the English girls to gain bronze at the Commonwealth Games. After winning the bronze award, the team have been training for the upcoming world cup. Since the early 1990’s, these ladies have held high positions in every major event. In fact, they have not finished below fourth place since way back in 1991. That means that they will be hard to face, and it will take an excellent team to beat them. Many experts believe that these ladies have what it takes to go all the way this year and win the trophy.

New Zealand

With a second position ranking in the world, the New Zealand team are worth watching. So far, these ladies have won the NWC Trophy on four separate occasions. That means that they know what they are doing once they get on the court. They have also come second to the masters, Australia, seven times. If they want to go all the way this year, though, they will need to bring their A game. Over the years, there have been many great teams who haven’t sustained this standard of play for long.

Australia

Finally, you should watch the home team, Australia. Since they are hosting the event, these girls have a distinct advantage. Aside from that, the ladies have a strong team, which means that they could go far. Right now, they hold the number one spot in the world. They have also won ten out of the thirteen previous games, which means that they are already ahead. There is no doubt about it, Australia are the ones to beat this year!

With the games just about to start, all we can do is speculate. In just under two weeks, one team will take home the trophy.
